The Kings Centre is a purpose-built community centre situated in the heart of Wigston, Leicestershire, serving the local community and surrounding area by providing a range of activities, services and facilities targetted to specifically identified needs in the local area and population.

The Kings Centre is located on Bull Head Street (A5199), opposite B&Q and Aldi, in the heart of Wigston, just south of Leicester.

The Kings Centre is run for the benefit of the local community. Through the range of activities and services we provide we aim to meet the needs of local people, families and businesses and in so doing to help build and strengthen the local community.

The Centre also has rooms that are available for hire at very competitive rates. These can be booked by anyone and are suitable for a wide range of events and functions.

Who owns The Kings Centre?

The Kings Centre is owned by Meadows Community Church, a local church that has been meeting in the Wigston/Meadows area for the past 10 years. The Centre is a registered company and is run by a board of directors, all of whom are members of the church.

Who works at The Kings Centre?

The Kings Centre currently employs a number of full-time and part-time staff. Most of these work for The Lighthouse Day Nursery (which occupies part of the building and is run by The Kings Centre). There is also a Centre Manager who oversees the day-to-day administration of the Centre.

What are the aims and vision of The Kings Centre?

Our vision statement is: 'Supporting the family, building the community. The Kings Centre is actively committed to supporting the family and building the community through providing a centre of excellence at the heart of the community, with extensive facilities and a range of activities. These are aimed at meeting specific and identified needs in the local area.

When is The Kings Centre open?

The building is used by The Lighthouse Day Nursery from 8am-6pm Monday-Friday throughout the year (excluding public holidays and between Christmas and New Year). However, at present the Centre's reception is not staffed at all times. Unless you are coming to the Centre for a specific group or activity that you know is on, if you would like to speak to someone or arrange to visit, please phone the Centre. If there is no-one on reception at the time you phone, please leave a message with the Nursery staff and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

How is The Kings Centre funded?

The Kings Centre was originally set up with the aid of donations from Meadows Community Church and other local churches and interested parties, as well as development grants and loans from a number of sources. Since then the Centre has been self-financing, major sources of income being the Lighthouse Day Nursery and room hire charges.

How can I hire a room at The Kings Centre?

You will need to contact us (by phone or email or by using the online form) to discuss your requirements. If we are happy, a provisional booking will be made over the phone and then a booking form, confirmatory letter etc. sent out to you. Please note that certain conditions apply regarding the kinds of events that can be held in The Kings Centre.

What car parking facilities are there at The Kings Centre?

The Kings Centre does not have its own car parking apart from two spaces to the right of the building which are strictly disabled/staff parking only. Centre users are strongly discouraged from parking on the roads immediately surrounding and adjacent to the Kings Centre to avoid congestion and inconvenience to local residents. There is a public car park on Paddock Street just opposite the Centre and the Aldi car park (also opposite the Centre) may also be used in the evenings and on Sundays. The pavement area at the front of the building should only be used for loading and unloading of equipment, not for parking.

Can I smoke in The Kings Centre?

No. The Kings Centre operates a strict no smoking policy throughout the facilities.

The Kings Centre exists to support the local community. Our services and activities are targetted at a number of specifically identified needs and target-groups within the local community and we hope to continue expanding the range and scope of what we have to offer. The Kings Centre also has rooms that are available to hire for private, chartity, community or business functions.
